Diatomeen und Radiolarien müssen besonders anpassungsfähig, leicht, materialökonomisch und belastbar sein - Anforderungen die ebenso an Produkte unseres täglichen Lebens gestellt werden.
Sie haben eine scheinbar unendliche Vielfalt an optimierten Formen, optimierten Konstruktionen und optimierten Gestalten entwickelt, jeweils an den spezifischen Lebensraum angepasst.
Die stilisierte Diatomee soll als Symbol für den reichen Schatz, den die Natur als Vorbild für Übertragungsmöglichkeiten in die Technik bietet, dienen und damit den den Wissenschaftszweig der Bionik repräsentieren.
Die Statuette ist ein innovatives Porzellanobjekt, innenseitig platiniert.
Diese beiden unterschiedlichen Materialien und Oberflächen sollen ebenso Symbole für die Biologie und die Technik sein, die im Begriff Bionik vereint sind.

Diatoms and radiolarians must be particularly adaptable, lightweight, materially economic, and structurally sound – demands that are likewise placed on products of our everyday lives.
They have developed an apparently unending variety of optimized forms, optimized structures, and optimized designs, each adapted to specific habitats.
The stylized diatom should serve as symbol for the rich source of precedents offered by nature for their adoption in technology and thereby represent the scientific field of bionics or biomimetics.
The statuette is an innovative porcelain object, coated with platinum on the inside.
The different materials and surfaces should act as symbols for biology and technology respectively, which are united under the term biomimetics.
